When asked about she enjoys most about SIU, Professor Karnes says “the determination and honesty of SIU students.” She’s seen that determination time and time again in her many classes on financial accounting, managerial accounting, and individual, corporate and partnership taxation.
Karnes researches financial accounting, managerial accounting and federal taxation. She is also a member of the Illinois CPA Society and American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Born in Olney, Karnes was raised in Princeton, Ind. She is a dual-degree graduate of SIU. She holds a bachelor’s degree in health care management and a master of accountancy.
At SIU, Karnes serves on the Alumni Board of Directors, Alumni Association Membership Committee, Student Instructional Support Committee and Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Committee.
