Professor Odom is an enthusiastic and engaging instructor. “The professors at the College of Business are wonderful,” said Justin Miller, recent graduate of the School of Accountancy.

“They’re very knowledgeable and very sincere. They take time out of class to mentor you. Throughout my time at SIU, Dr. Odom took me under his wing and taught be about the real world, what it takes to be successful. He helped me get my job at Emerson and he helped me get an internship at Boeing so I can’t say enough good things about him.”

Odom returns the compliment. “The students here are wonderful. They want to learn and are willing to work hard to succeed,” he said.

Odom teaches undergraduate and graduate accounting information systems, internal auditing and fraud auditing.  Since 2004, he has been the Director of the School of Accountancy. “The people I work with at the College are brilliant, cheerful and always willing to go the extra mile,” said Odom. “I also love this region of the country. It’s a beautiful environment.”

Odom came to SIU in 1998 from The University of Southwestern Louisiana. He has also taught at Oklahoma State University and Central Texas College.

A native of Arkansas, Odom grew up enjoying motocross and drag racing but he didn’t drag his feet in school. Odom earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting from Arkansas State University and a doctorate in accounting from Oklahoma State University. He also served as a captain in the U.S. Army.
