Ania Rose, Assistant Professor of Accounting

Quick Links

Professor Rose has received accolades for teaching and research. In 2006, she was nominated for the College of Business Undergraduate Teacher of the Year Award. Accounting student Conrad Houeto praises Professor Rose for “her availability after class and true dedication to teaching," he said.

In turn, Rose applauds College of Business students for always being “ready for challenging courses and they appreciate having to work hard to prepare for their careers,” she said.

Rose’s research interests are in the areas of audit judgment and quality, internal control, fraud, and accounting education. Her most recent work examines investor reactions to internal control weakness disclosures and the role of internal audit in fraud risk assessment.

In 2003, she received the Best Paper Award at the International Business and Economics Research Conference, which includes both national and international research papers in the areas of international business, economics, accounting, finance, marketing and management information systems.

The presenters at the conference came from 37 different countries. All accepted papers were double-blind reviewed and published in refereed conference proceedings. The award was given in recognition of excellence in research as determined by peer evaluation.

Titled "A Comparative Analysis of Audit Service Supply Using Desk and Working Paper Reviews," the paper investigated financial audit quality issues for independent school district audits. The Department of Education requires different types of quality control reviews of the financial statements and financial audits of independent school districts. Based on an evaluation of the quality reviews, the findings of the study suggest that low audit quality may be more prevalent than generally suspected and that steps to improve audit quality and auditor credibility are warranted. The paper was co-authored with Donald Deis of University of Missouri, who shared the award.

Prior to coming to SIU, Rose taught at Montana State University, The University of Tennessee, Texas A&M University, Oklahoma City University, Bryant College and England’s Edge Hill College.

A native of Warsaw, Poland, Rose moved to College Station, Texas with her family when she was in the 5th grade. She earned her bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in accounting from Texas A&M University.

Although Rose keeps plenty busy with her teaching and research, she always makes time for family and her two gaited horses which “I love to ride and my other hobby is gardening. I really enjoy seeing plants grow and eating fruits and vegetables out of the garden,” she said.
