Professor “Jake,” as he’s called by students, is director of the Ph.D. program in accounting. He took on this post because he enjoys “the collegial environment in the College of Business, and the students who want to be challenged,” he said.

Rose also serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Information Systems, the International Journal of Accounting Information Systems, and the Journal of Emerging Technologies in Accounting.

Jake's research focuses on judgment, decision making and knowledge structure development.  His research emphasizes experimental methods in decision contexts related to information systems, fraud, and corporate governance. Jake's teaching areas include accounting information systems, advanced systems, behavioral accounting research seminars for Ph.D. students, and fraud.

Jake's work has appeared in journals such as: Accounting, Organizations, and Society; Accounting Forum; Advances in Accounting Behavioral Research; Behavioral Research in Accounting; International Journal of Accounting Information Systems; Journal of Accountancy; Journal of Business Ethics; Journal of Information Systems; Managerial Finance; and Risk Analysis.

In 2007, Jake developed custom software and training materials for the U.S. government.  His materials are employed by the U.S. Department of Treasury, Department of Homeland Security, Internal Revenue Service, and other federal law enforcement agencies to train employees in digital fraud detection techniques and to search for fraud during field investigations.

"It is extremely exciting that the Department of Treasury and other federal agencies are employing my fraud detection software," said Rose. "Digital fraud detection techniques can greatly increase the efficiency of field investigations, and the software was specifically designed to detect patterns indicative of financial and tax fraud. I am very hopeful that the software will allow federal law enforcement agents to prevent and detect financial and tax fraud more quickly and effectively."

Rose is the winner of the 2007 College of Business and Administration Research Excellence Award. He is a three-degree graduate of Texas A& M University, earning a bachelor's degree in accounting, a master's degree in accounting and a doctorate in accounting information systems.

Born and raised in Southern California, Rose developed a passion for research, experimentation, and writing while helping his father conduct field research in the orange groves of California.

Not one to shy away from new adventures, Rose recently worked abroad in Australia and New Zealand, where he “lived on a small sheep farm during lambing season, swam with wild dolphins in the open ocean, walked empty beaches for hours, and enjoyed regular dinners with local farmers. It was a magnificent experience,” he said.
