Suresh R. Sharma, is an Inspector General and Director of WFP's Oversight Services Division at the Rome headquarters. Sharma earned his MBA in 1985 and his PhD in 1993, both in Accounting.

Sharma, who began his career at the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) as a Budget Analyst in 1989 - will oversee the Internal Audit, Inspection and Investigation functions. With a budget of US$6 Billion, WFP plans to feed 90 million people this year.

Sharma has served the organization in various roles, including Budget Director, WFP Representative and Country Director in Sri Lanka, and Director of Finance. More recently, he served as Director of WFP's Ethics Office, a unit which he helped establish.

Prior to joining WFP, Sharma worked at the Budget Office of the Southern Illinois University at Carbondale while pursuing his Masters and Doctorate in Business Administration (1983-1989). In Nepal, Sharma worked as Chief of the Financial Administration Division at Tribhuvan University, as Chief of the Planning and Evaluation Division at the Agriculture Marketing Corporation in Kathmandu, and in the Treasurer's Office in the United Mission to Nepal. Sharma is married to Gita, and has three children - Sajal, Nirjal and Astha.

WFP is the world's largest humanitarian agency and the UN's frontline agency for hunger solutions. This year, WFP plans to feed around 90 million people in 80 countries. (Posted 5/27/09)
