Case analyses of human problems in business organization. Application of findings of behavioral science research to organizational problems. Topics: The foundation for OB; the basic building blocks of OB; the heart of OB: motivation, learning and leadership; the dynamics of OB: groups, interactive behavior, conflict power and politics; the environmental context of OB: culture, international context and change. Managing Innovation and Change
The methods and processes of planned innovation and change are examined. Special emphasis is placed on the design and implementation of continuous innovation and improvement systems and related issues of managing constant change. Beyond the boundaries: Innovation and change models are viewed in the context of international competitiveness and a global environment. (503-3 Management of Change).
Management Control System
Basic cost concepts, measures, methods and systems useful for managerial planning, implementation, control and performance evaluation. Topics: The fundamentals: cost-volume-profit relationships and activity based costing; tools for planning and control: budgeting and variance analysis; relevant revenues, relevant cost and the decision process; capital budgeting; other management control systems. Leadership and Management
This course will concentrate on leader and manager behavior at middle to top management levels. Emphasis will be placed on leader and manager effectiveness and the factors that impact effectiveness. Topics: The difference between leadership and management; the process of leadership in organization: establishing direction, aligning people, motivating and inspiring people, the structure of leadership: multiple roles and thick informal networks; organizational culture and leadership. Corporate Financial Management
A study of financial principles and practices with special emphasis on their relation to managerial planning and control. Topics: The role and goals of finance and financial managers; basic financial concepts: time value of money, risk and return; financial analysis and planning; long-term investment decisions; cost of capital, leverage and capital structure; long-term and short-term financial decisions. Legal and Social Environment of Business
An overview of the legal, social and ethical dimensions which influence business with particular attention to the role of law as a control factor. Topics: The nature and sources of local law and legal system; introduction to the law of contract, agency law and sales of goods law. The legal knowledge will help managers in understanding how a legal problem may arise or may be avoided and in making better informed judgment in business. (470-3).
Global Operations Management
This course provides a global perspective of operations, emphasizing competitive strategies and characteristics of world class companies. Problems of multinational operations are explored. Topics: Operations strategy; process management; TQM; SPC; design decisions: workforce management, waiting line models, simulation and transportation method; operating decisions: forecasting, materials management, inventory models, JIT systems, scheduling and complex projects. Entrepreneurship and Small Medium Enterprises
This course introduces the concept of entrepreneurship, small business analysis and topics related to ownership, management and starting of new business ventures, and contribution of the entrepreneurial ventures to the economy. Course activities will include library and field research, case analysis and business plan writing. Active participation in seminar presentation and discussion are expected. Management of Information Technology
A survey of information technology, system design, analysis and operations. Application of information and telecommunication technology will be emphasized. Topic: System concept; system analysis and design; database management; software and hardware concepts; decision support systems; expert systems; distributed processing and telecommunications; strategic management of information; competitive advantage through IT. Strategic Management and Business Policy
This is a study of the development and implementation of competitive business strategies and policies as they relate to the overall performance of an organization within its environment, from the general managers’ perspective. Comprehensive business cases and simulation games will be used.
