SIUC has its origin dated back in 1869. Today, it is a major university providing a comprehensive array of programs to over 24,000 students. The MBA program has earned this renowned accreditation since 1972.

SIUC has a long history of business education. The first business courses were offered in 1906. Graduate course work began during the post World War II era with a Master of Science in Business Administration. The MBA program began in the mid-1960s. The CBA established its first Doctor of Business Administration program in 1981.

The Graduate School plays an essential role in development of instructional and research program and in procurement of facilities necessary to encourage and support research by members of scholarly community. Graduate students pursue advanced study and research under the leadership of a graduate faculty of over 1,000 members. SIUC was ranked 9th among US top business schools in Financial Research Productivity (Financial Institutions) by the Journal of Financial Education (Spring 1998).

The Carbondale campus, comprising more than 3,290 acres, has developed a 981-acre portion with woods and a lake as a site for its academic buildings and residence halls. The buildings are located in wooded tracts along two circular shaped campus drives, named for Lincoln and Douglas. It features both modern and historical buildings in a spacious, verdant setting. The result is a pleasant ambience conducive to achievement of excellence.

Its Morris Library is one of the largest open-shelf academic libraries in the countries. It contains over 2,000,000 volumes, subscribes to 22,000 current periodicals, and serves as a Federal Government Document Depository. The library is electronically on-line to over 35 academic libraries with tell fax and Internet services for research needs.
