JD/MAcc Concurrent Degree at SIUC

Students who have been admitted separately to the School of Law and to the Master of Accountancy program may apply for permission to study concurrently for both the Juris Doctor and the Master of Accountancy degrees. Permission must be obtained from both the School of Law and the School of Accountancy, ordinarily prior to entry into the second year curriculum of the School of Law.

Completion of the concurrent programs requires successful completion of 81 semester hours of law courses and 21 semester hours of courses that meet Master of Accountancy requirements. Students may select (in consultation with the Director of the Master of Accountancy Program) nine hours of the thirty hours required for the Master of Accountancy program from courses offered by the School of Law. Students may select no more than 6 hours of coursework at the 400-level.

General Admission Procedure:

The SIU School of Law and SIUC School of Accountancy offer a concurrent JD/Masters of Accountancy. Students must gain admission to both programs. See the Graduate School Catalog for further details. You may visit the law school's website for further information as well.
Students begin a concurrent degree program upon the successful completion of their first year of law school. Admission to a concurrent degree program is subject to the approval of the Associate Dean of the School of Law and the Director of the Masters of Accountancy Program. Students interested in participating in a concurrent degree program should apply to both programs and begin making plans for participation during the Spring semester of their first year of law study after their fall grades have been received.
Planning for participation in a concurrent degree program includes meeting with the Associate Dean of the School of Law and meeting with the Director of the Masters of Accountancy Program. These meetings should take place after receipt of the fall semester law grades.
Once students have met with the Associate Dean of the Law School and the Director of the MAcc Program, they should complete the Law School's Concurrent Degree Program Application Form and turn it in to the School of Law Registrar’s Office. Students will be notified of their acceptance or rejection for participation in the concurrent degree program to the end of the Spring semester of their first year of law school.
Participation in a concurrent degree program is contingent upon compliance with applicable rules in the law school and School of Accountancy. This includes maintaining a 2.3 GPA in law school work while participating in the M.Acc. program. Failure to comply with applicable rules and policies may result in the student being withdrawn from the non-law program.
