International Applicants   April 15   September 15   February 15

Application deadlines are recommended; that is, applications will be accepted at any time. However, applications received after the deadlines may not be considered for admission in the semester requested.

How are candidates for admission assessed?

Each applicant is assessed individually. All aspects of application are considered with special attention given to GMAT scores, academic performance, and work experience. Admissions decisions are made by the MBA Coordinator pursuant to guidelines provided by the Masters Program Committee and in consultation with the Director of Graduate Programs/Associate Dean.

What are the minimum requirements for admissions consideration?

The Graduate School requires a minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.7 on a 4 scale over the last 60 credit hours (two years) of study.  The average UGPA of those admitted to the MBA program is around 3.3 on a 4 scale.

The Graduate School requires a minimum TOEFL score of 213 (computer) or 550 (paper) for international students. Applicants who complete the Graduate School English (GSE) program at the Center for English as a Second Language (CESL) are exempt. For more information, see http://www.siu.edu/~cesl/

Is there a minimum GMAT score for admission?

No. However, applicants with scores in the 50th percentile or higher are preferred.

Can I take the GMAT more than once?

If you take the GMAT more than once, we will accept the highest score.

Is post-undergraduate work experience required?

No, but work experience is considered a positive factor in the admissions decision. On average, students enrolled in the MBA program have approximately 3 years of full time work experience.

Are transfer credits allowed

We will accept a maximum of 6 hours of transfer credit from an AACSB accredited school. Courses that meet our foundation requirements are not transferred, they are merely accepted as fulfilling the requirement.

CURRICULUM

How long will the MBA program take?

It depends on how many foundation courses you are lacking. If you have an undergraduate degree in business, you may be able to complete the program in one year; if you have never had a business course, it may take two years (or more). The core curriculum of the program consists of 33 credit hours. Foundation courses may add up to another 34 hours (although that is extremely rare).

What areas of emphasis are available?

Students are required to take 12 hours of elective credits to fulfill part of the 33 credit hour minimum for a degree. Electives are available in finance, marketing, international business, management information systems, organizational behavior, and more. Students may also opt to take elective credits outside the College.

Will I have an opportunity to study abroad?

Yes. Due to a longstanding agreement with ESC-Grenoble, students in the MBA program at SIUC have the opportunity to also receive a Masters of International Business (MIB) degree in Grenoble, France. For more information, go to http://www.grenoble-em.com/default.aspx?rub=355&lg=en

Full time students usually take 12 credit hours per semester in the Fall and Spring, 9 hours in the Summer.
