Professor Litecky is a seasoned professional in the information systems area. He has more than twenty-five years experience in applications development in a variety of languages and methodologies that he brings to the new study of developing applications for the web.

He is the author of many research publications, three programming books, has worked as a programmer for several large corporations and has introduced Visual Basic.Net, Visual C#.Net  ASP.Net and other technologies to classes at Southern Illinois University.

A native Minnesotan, Litecky received his master's degree from the University of Minnesota. He worked as a computer programmer in private industry for several years before deciding to pursue his doctorate.

A conversation with his former college adviser "made a dramatic change in my life," persuading Litecky to study management information systems. He received his doctorate from the University of Minnesota in 1974. His dissertation focused on programming languages from his industrial experience.

After working in Florida and Wisconsin, Litecky joined the accounting department at the University of Missouri at Columbia, where he established the department's first management information system. After 12 years there, he went to Mississippi State University in 1991 as a professor of information systems.

Litecky started teaching in web development in 1995 when he started the first course on Visual Basic at Mississippi State. He and other MIS faculty have obtained grants from Microsoft, Oracle, Verizon, WorldCom and the State Farm Foundation to install and teach the latest Microsoft software, database management systems, and server software for programming language and ecommerce support for students.

Since joining SIU in 2001, Litecky has directed the Pontikes Center and served as faculty advisor for the SIU chapter of the Association for Information Technology Professionals (AITP).

Out of the classroom, Litecky is an avid fisherman, old house re-modeler and a fan of wrestling. He is currently renovating “an old 17’ Boston Whaler Nauset and has high hopes of fishing adventures in the Gulf of Mexico and Lake Michigan,” he said.
