Alumni, students, and friends are invited to mark their calendars for Southern Illinois University's Expo & Brunch on Saturday, March 7th, 2009, in St. Louis, co-sponsored by the College of Business and the SIU Alumni Association. This casual event will showcase exciting displays from departments all across campus, highlight businesses that support the university, and include special guests Athletic Director Mario Moccia, SIU Chancellor Sam Goldman, Alumni Association Executive Director Michelle Suarez, and the voice of the Salukis, Mike Reis.
The event will be filled with other exciting activities, such as a pep rally and silent auction. The ticket price also includes a breakfast buffet brunch, allowing you to meet other SIU Alumni and supporters. The event will be held in the Archview Ballroom (2nd Floor) of the newly renovated Hilton at the Ballpark as part of the Missouri Valley Conference Basketball Tournament festivities. Doors open at 9:30 am.
Ticket prices are $15 for members of the Alumni Association, $10 for students, and $20 otherwise (Must present Student or Alumni Association ID at the event).

HISTORY OF THE EVENT
In 2006, the SIU Marketing Department External Advisory Board decided to showcase the work of the department in conjunction with the Missouri Valley Conference Basketball Tournament held annually in St. Louis. Since the Salukis usually perform well in this tournament, and it draws a large number of alumni, the EAB thought it the perfect venue to reacquaint former SIU students with the work of the Marketing department. The EAB hosted a Friday business luncheon meeting featuring a keynote speaker from Anheuser-Busch’s marketing department, along with speakers from SIU’s marketing department and leaders from the SIU College of Business Administration. This first-ever event attracted a number of alumni interested in learning more about what is happening in the Marketing department and College of Business Administration.
In 2007, the event was significantly expanded in scope and attendance. Realizing that Saturday was the best day and brunch was the best time to capture the attention of Salukis in attendance, the EAB decided to host the Saluki Expo and Brunch on Saturday morning of the MVC tournament. And, rather than just focusing on the Marketing department and COBA, the Board opened the event to the entire SIU community and area businesses as its mission for the 2007 event. In less than two hours, more than 1,000 people attended the brunch and visited the Expo where booths highlighted the work of SIU colleges, departments, student organizations and special research projects. Local businesses recruited students at the Expo, and SIU leadership, including President Poshard and Interim Chancellor Dunn, offered insight into the future of SIU which generated tremendous enthusiasm among those in attendance. Afterward, the feedback was very positive from the attendees, exhibitors and the SIU community.
The MVC Expo has come to be a cornerstone of the work on the Marketing External Advisory Board, and a tremendous boost to the entire SIU community. We are now working with the SIU Alumni Association to create a once-a-year extravaganza at the MVC Basketball Tournament in St. Louis. The 2008 event was our biggest yet, with over 25 booths and partnerships from all areas of the university. This year’s event will promise more entertainment and activities, and showcase many corporate sponsors of Saluki Nation! Come to the 2009 Saluki Expo and join other Salukis for brunch and networking before cheering our basketball team onto success at the MVC Tournament.
