Smith wins service award

Marge Smith, office systems specialist III for the marketing department, is the winner of the 2008 Outstanding Service Award.

“I was very surprised. I knew I had been nominated for the award but had heard that Sun Min and Joe Pineau were also nominated so it didn’t occur to me that I would get it,” said Smith. 

Department of Marketing Chair Terry Clark believes Smith is very deserving. “Marge is the best, always cheerful and willing to go above and beyond to help out,” Clark said.

Smith joined the marketing department in 1995 and felt right at home from the start. “I love my job, the marketing department and its faculty are the best! The department is so open. I get a chance to meet a lot of students and make connections with them,” she said.

A native of southern Illinois, Smith was born in Carbondale and educated in Murphysboro. She also raised a family in Carterville. “I love the area and I have no plans to leave, especially now that I am the proud grandmother of a one-year-old girl. She is amazing,” Smith said.
