John S. Heakin, College of Business alumnus, Hall of Famer and External Advisory Board member and president of North American Insights, was asked to co-chair the Marketing Research Association's (MRA) first Oral History Project, which celebrate the group's 50th Anniversary. “I was quite honored that the Marketing Research Association chose me to record its history,” said Heakin.

Accounting student wins scholarship
An accounting student at Southern Illinois University Carbondale has won a National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) scholarship, valued at $2,500. Conrad Houeto of the Republic of Benin, master of accountancy student in the College of Business and Administration, received the prize at the NABA conference in Philadelphia in June. "I was so proud to represent the NABA SIUC chapter, and Southern Illinois University as a whole," said Houeto, who carries a 4.0 GPA.

Hard work pays off for graduating business student

Amanda F. Camacho has never taken life for granted. The granddaughter of native Puerto Ricans , Amanda was raised by police officer parents in inner-city Chicago. Having pride in her Latina heritage, the 21-year-old grew up hearing stories of her grandfather, Felix Rodriguez, who came to the United States with “just $11 in his pocket and a dream,” she said.

Mykytyn's work and life celebrated in Germany
Peter P. Mykytyn, Jr., professor of management, is a visiting professor at Germany’s RWTH Aachen University this year. He is conducting research on Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) in the context of e-commerce and offers two courses to advanced students, to be held in English, namely "Information Systems Management" and "Intellectual Property Issues and E-Business." Mykytyn was recently featured in an article on the Hanau, Germany Military Community website.

Tadisina named interim associate dean
Suresh K. Tadisina, associate professor of management, has been named interim associate dean of the College of Business and Administration at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

Mathur named managing editor of leading journal

A researcher at Southern Illinois University Carbondale's College of Business and Administration is the new managing editor of the Journal of Banking and Finance, a top-ranking publication of world economic and financial research. Ike Mathur, Henry J. Rehn professor of finance, will take on the role beginning Jan. 1, 2008. He follows in the footsteps of Giorgio Szegö, one of the founders and managing editor of the Journal for the past 31 years.

A Southern Illinois University Carbondale student has hit "nothing but net" in his quest to work for the National Basketball Association. This summer, Steve Caulkins of Rock Island, a junior in SIUC College of Business and Administration, is interning in the community relations department of the New York Knicks organization.

College of Business alumnus tapped for marketing management honor
A Mississippi State business college leader is being named a Fellow of the Marketing Management Association. Brian Engelland, head of Mississippi State's Department of Marketing, quantitative analysis and business law, will be the 20th member of the international organization to receive the high honor. The associate professor was recognized March 29 for his consistent scholarly research and continuing service to the profession.

Black speaks at college conference

Accounting alumnus Dale Black spoke during a financial conference at John A. Logan College in June. Black is executive vice president and chief financial officer of Trump Entertainment Resorts which includes Trump's three Atlantic City casinos. A native of Bluford in Jefferson County, Black offered tips on how to make it big in the business world and his "keys to success." Black graduated with a degree in accounting from SIU in 1984.
