Focus on the College
  • The School of Accountancy has initiated The School of Accountancy Research Colloquium Series this Fall for all College of Business faculty and PhD students. The colloquium series brings in renowned accounting scholars to SIUC to present and discuss cutting edge accounting research. Director of the School of Accountancy Dr. Marcus D. Odom said, “This is the type of event that doctoral granting research universities have for their faculty and Ph.D. students. We felt that this was missing from our program and wanted to get this started. We are very excited about the research colloquium series and know it will be a very beneficial component of our research mission. We are especially excited about the quality of scholars that have already committed to come and present.” [read more…]

  • The College of Business held its annual fall Dean’s Reception at The Ritz-Carlton St. Louis on Thursday, September 10th. The hors d’oeuvre and cocktail reception lasted from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.  The Reception is typically held on campus in Carbondale, but this year, it was expanded to welcome all St. Louis Area College of Business Alumni and friends, in addition to College faculty, staff, and External Advisory Board members. Approximately 200 people were in attendance, including SIU Alumni Association Director, Michelle Suarez. [read more…]
  • The College of Business’s Annual School of Accountancy Career Fair was held on Thursday, September 24, 2009, in the International Lounge of the Student Center. The career fair was geared toward accounting students who are looking to acquire internships, full time positions upon graduation, or for networking. There were numerous companies in attendance, as well as multiple resume boxes in place for companies who could not physically attend the fair. [read more…]

  • A Southern Illinois University College of Business alumna will be honored on October 17, 2009.   Betty Brennan, a 1989 Marketing graduate, will receive the 2009 Alumna Achievement Award for her outstanding service and successful career as an entrepreneur.  Brennan will be recognized at the Inspiring Women Gala located in the Southern Illinois University Carbondale Student Center Ballrooms and International Lounge. This prestigious event honors women who have made significant, unique, and lasting contributions in their community or workplace, and have served as role models of achievement for others.   • The SIU Alumni Association recently honored College of Business alumnus John Heakin with the 2009 Distinguished Alumni Award. The Award recognizes SIUC alumni who have achieved extraordinary success and respect within a given industry, post-graduation. Former recipients include leaders in a multitude of fields including business and industry, performance arts, and professional athletics. [read more…]
  • One College of Business alumna recently began working for the United States Department of Homeland Security in Springfield, Virginia, 20 miles from Washington, D.C.  Johanna Yutzy, who completed both her bachelor’s degree and MBA in Marketing at the College of Business, was recently hired on to the QinetiQ North America office, contracted by Homeland Security. Yutzy, a Plain City, Ohio native, came to Southern Illinois University in 2003 upon receiving a scholarship to play volleyball for the Salukis. [read more…]

  • One of the Southern Illinois University College of Business’ newest faculty members is already helping to generate positive research publicity for the College and her department. Dr. Cheryl Burke Jarvis, a newly hired Associate Professor of Marketing, recently had a study published in the September issue for the Journal of Marketing. The Journal of Marketing has been the recognized leader in its field for more than seven decades. [read more…]
